Domestic Violence (DV): Recognizing and Responding to Victims and Perpetrators in the Health Care Setting
This web-based course on domestic violence (DV) addresses practical issues faced by health care providers in clinical settings. The course includes vignettes which illustrate assessment strategies to use with victims and with perpetrators of DV. The course is presented in two parts.
Module 1
Module 1 presents a general overview of DV and explains why DV is a health care issue. The module then focuses specifically on recognizing and responding in the clincial setting to victims of DV, including how to assess for DV victimization and strategies for safely responding to DV victims. The module concludes with clinical vignettes demonstrating how to assess for DV victimization in the health care setting.
Module 2
Module 2 builds on material presented in Module 1, and focuses specifically on recognizing and responding to perpetrators of DV. Module 2 presents strategies useful in screening for DV perpetration, assessing dangerousness, and responding safely to DV perpetrators. The module concludes with two clinical vignettes demonstrating how to assess for DV perpetration in the health care setting.
