CONFERENCE DETAILS

Sleep Disorders
Behavioral and Pharmacologic Management

Saturday, October 04, 2008

Washington State Convention & Trade Center, Seattle

Conference Brochure. View or print the brochure (PDF)

Designed For: Nurse practitioners, clinical nurse specialists, staff nurses, psychologists, physicians, physician assistants, social workers and other interested health care providers

Chronic sleep disorders adversely affect the health and daytime functioning of 50 to 70 million people in the United States. The cumulative long-term effects of common sleep disorders such as insomnia, obstructive sleep apnea and restless leg syndrome have been associated with an increased risk of hypertension, diabetes, obesity, depression, heart attack, and stroke. Despite the prevalence, health care providers receive minimal training in the assessment and management of sleep disorders.

This all day workshop with a team of nationally-recognized sleep specialists will provide a comprehensive update on current perspectives on the clinical management of common sleep disorders. Content includes assessment of sleep disorders; use of new hypnotic and stimulant drugs; use of cognitive and behavioral strategies in the elderly and those with cognitive impairments; and an overview of sleep disturbance in selected neurological disorders. Teaching methods include lecture, discussion and case study analysis.

This conference is also considered as Saturday Workshop FD01 offered in conjunction with the 31st Annual Pacific Northwest National Conference on Advanced Practice in Primary and Acute Care, October 1-4, 2008. Registration to the Advanced Practice Conference is not required.
